As many as one tenth of members claim to have suffered elder abuse, and close to one third claim to know of someone else suffering it. The most commonly reported form of abuse is emotional abuse, followed by financial abuse. In every case, those with full or part-time caregivers are more likely (sometimes twice as likely) as others to report abuse. While greater public awareness leads the list of solutions to elder abuse, there is considerable enthusiasm for stiffer penalties and more caregiver training and supervision.
Most members saw a government PSA on elder abuse awareness, few thought it would prevent elder abuse and most would like to see government funding for elder protection agencies, similar to the Adult Protection Services (APS) in the US.
